"The Pillow Book of Sei Shōnagon"  is a book of observations and musings recorded by Sei Shōnagon during her time as court lady to Empress Consort Teishi during the 990s and early 1000s in Heian-period Japan.
Sei Shōnagon in this diary shows her deep appreciation for nature and the landscape throughout the seasons. Therefore, I recreated the cover and spreads using the grid systems from nature.
The cover was created based on the movements of leaves in the wind.
The natural grid systems were based on elements from nature, such as wood veins, stars, or water swirls, etc.
